Matinee 24th March 2:30pm
by Patrick Hamilton +

In this abstract take of a classic thriller, Jack Manningham is slowly and deliberately driving his wife Bella insane. And he has almost succeeded when help arrives in the unlikely shape of a former detective, ex-Inspector Rough, who suspects Manningham to be a thief and murderer. But can Rough gather the vital evidence he needs in time to save Bella from a fate worse than death? And what is the significance of the gaslight that dims in the drawing room without apparent reason?

Abigail’s Party
by Mike Leigh +

Beverly Moss invites her new neighbours, Angela and Tony, over for drinks. She has also invited her neighbour Sue, whose fifteen year-old daughter Abigail is having a party of her own at home. The atmosphere at Beverly’s gathering is rather stiff and insensitive at first, as only the British middle-class can be when surrounded by virtual strangers. But then her husband Laurence arrives and the couple begin sniping at each other, the regularly topped-up drinks take effect and some none-too-subtle flirting occurs between certain guests – and the evening takes on a very different tone...

Matinee performance on Sunday 19th.
